Chronology
Beware the siren's call that is Net-A-Porter.
No seriously - as if I didn't waste enough time wishing I had an endless budget to spend on its pretty, lustworthy things (with its exorbitant shipping costs and that impeccable monochromatic packaging which apparently makes it worthwhile...beautiful lies...)
Then they had to make an exclusive film - the aptly named 'Chronology' - with the kind of amazing Luca Guadagnino (there's a sexy tongue twister for you...if only all tongue twisters came in the form of exotically named men...that came out sounding far more gutter than I intended...)
A delicious girly fairytale. It's almost too pretty for words. But with an irresistibly deviant, almost sinister edge. A decrepit mansion. Birds of prey aplenty (the predator jokes abound...). Mariacarla Boscono (or various versions of her) lost in a sublime daze - all while enviably clad in Miu Miu, Yves Saint Laurent among other yummy, swoonworthy things...
And who said fantasy was dead?
Dirty liar.
Get lost. No seriously, beautifully.

Act Da Fool
I love film. And I love pretty wearable things. And I especially love when the two come together. Beautifully.
Coming from the girl who has watched 'The September Issue' about a million times (Do you also refer to everyday situations/people in terms of Anna or Grace...let's be friends) . And pretty much every single Chanel film ever made (I clearly could not get enough of the mythical Madame, her frocks and incessant very French bonking). Not to mention the Valentino documentary (I too would love an army of pugs and a perma-orange tan). And everyone's favourite retro party of camp - Blow Up (but with Birkin and some scandalous 60s era nudity - it's a real classic).
Now that we have that out of the way. I love lookbooks too. In case you haven't already noticed (in which case - you don't love me as much as you should and/or don't sit next to or behind me in class - best procrastination fodder. Bar none.)
So that whole pointless rant was really to kind of explain why I am going just vaguely bananas for this amazing piece of Harmony Korine film goodness. Ah yes, it's a Proenza Schouler lookbook (only one label could make me want to return to being back in private school in reincarnated grungy muse form). But set to a sparse, spoken word narrative, quasi-dreamlike ghetto playground. It's a little miserable. Majorly urban poetic. But kind of whimsically happy at the same time. Full of retro-faded, tres dreamy sunlight. Pretty clothes and a she-gang of tough looking teenage gals. It's kind of ugly and weird and majorly grunge. But captivatingly beautiful.
In other words - it's sort of brilliant.
Plus - it's all my loves rolled into one.
How could I resist...
Lovin' you fools

Film Noir & Ballet

When I was like five (Qualifying note: You can totally tell that I am just on the cusp of being reduced to a zimmerframe-using, Botox addicted hag with all this nostalgia) -I really wanted to be a prima ballerina (obviously that turned out really well)
I blame it on the haze of candy pink. Tulle tutus (I still love tulle...some things never die...it's like an unhealthy obsessive fantasy...admit it, you love tulle too). Topknots. And pointe shoes (once again...I swear I kind of live vicariously through my burgeoning collection of Repettos).
I'm a little past the candy pink and the actual like 'physical effort' part of ballet. But seeing the kind of effin' ah-mazing trailer for the upcoming Darren Aronofsky film, Black Swan, really brings out the inner (not-so-dead) prima ballerina in me. It's Natalie Portman in a nice return to form (I like to remember her more for Leon than the Star Wars trilogy). And it's a beautifully nightmarish ballet fantasy for little girls all grown up.
A dash psychotic. Infinitely creepy. Confusing (in a way that I think possibly beats Inception) Breathtakingly deranged yet stunning costumes (Rodarte no less...who could do insane chic better) Sexually predatory French ballet instructors (does it sound wrong to say - 'I wish I had a sexually predatory ballet instructor who looks and speaks like Vincent Cassel). And you can't go wrong with a bit of girl-on-girl action.
It's debauchery in pointe shoes.
I'm-a-gonna-get-myself-a-black-tutu-dress-now.
No really.
Really.
Love
