Lust For Life
I love this for so many reasons.
It's the perfect way to usher in a weekend of sinfulness.
Soft-focused and hazy. Like perfect lazy afternoons.
In bed with your friends and lovers. Recovering. Perhaps too well.
Hipster banality and singing into flowers has never looked so appropriate.
But perhaps the biggest win point of all is that it makes me feel more normal for dancing around randomly in my bedroom.
Maybe I'm crazy or just fucked in the head...
To reckless decadence!
Clink those shot glasses and away we go again...

Hip-Hop-Smoking
I love procrastinating. Especially when it involves finding pretty things to look at.
I really like this little piece of musical film. It's not new. But it is pretty gosh-darn amazing. I am rather fond of a good musical. It started with Joseph and culminated in many-a-guilty-snigger at the West Side Story in music classes.
I am also a little in love with Janelle Monae. I like to think I'd totally be like her if I had actual nouveau jazz/ghetto cool factor and was African American. It's a bit Outkast. And totally Yves Saint Laurent (Le Smoking anyone?) And maybe a little bit apocalyptic with its vision of android auctions. But if I had to choose any version of a bleak destructive future to live in - I'd totally dig this one.
And seriously, screw the robot next time I burn up the dance floor.
It's all about the android.

Camp Americana
You could love this or hate it.
Me? I love because secretly I too am obsessed with the mess that's America.
And the sheer camp factor of this video is making me want to hold that West Wing themed party I've been meaning to have for some time. Hot dogs from a stand. Hold the mustard. Cheerleaders (yeah I totally always wanted to be one). 'So you live in Ass-tralia?' (Oh I wish everyone had butts worthy of it being called something like that). Prom queens. I've always wanted to go to a prom as opposed to the rather lamely named Formal. New England crab cakes? Idaho potatoes? The stars and stripes hanging everywhere in my house? I should really invest in a tiara so I can come as the Statue of Liberty or something. Or just drape myself in a flag and do like Marina does and blame Hollywood and Disney for giving me unrealistic expectations about life.
Oh in the home of the brave...and the land of the free...

Pretty She Howls!
Sad truth of the day: Seeing indescribably beautiful yet enigmatic things make you come up with cryptic, weird titles which don't really make any sense but sound kind of cool...like you have some artistic credibility (when you clearly do not)
Case in point: This visual/aural piece of art by the lovely Phildel
If I could direct a home-made video of my life, I hope it looks/sounds as good as this. It's a little Blair Witch. A little French New Wave. Alphaville meets Marienbad. A dash retro Velvet Underground. A touch scratchy vinyl. Sofia Coppola if she was directing a movie on angsty, alterna-chick who gets around wearing copious amounts of black eyeliner and perhaps not much else. Perfect for running around in a Lover tunic and gumboots in a deserted forest. A bit Kerouac and heavy metal.
Or if all else fails (i.e. no home-made filming is done) - it's also perfect for sitting at home, thinking about imminent legal failure tomorrow morning...drinking a cup of green tea. And not much else

An Adorable Man-Eater
The thrill of the chase.
The hunt is on.
She's on the prowl.
Then she gets eaten.
Okay that's the slightly noir humour of the video...which maybe only I found hilarious.
Back in the day, yours truly was known as a bit of a man-eater (and no...not of the scantily clad Nelly Furtado video type...damn that was an annoying and yet surprisingly catchy tune)
Note - The present day situation is less man-eater and more...let's not go there (I have already been told several times that I wallow in 'dateless and bitter' territory far too often...it makes for a good laugh after experimental cocktails though)
I'm a bit in love with this Neko Case video. If only because it really takes the mickey out of man-eating and adorable little she-predators. Plus it's just a really cute video with girls with really big heads and pleated skirts. Don't you just want to frame it?
Or um...eat it?
