Ödland - The Queen of Hearts
Only one of the prettiest/kookiest music videos I've seen this week. Okay I lie...I haven't really seen that many pretty/kooky/weird and yet still awesome videos. It's that kind of nouveau French folk/piano jazz(a la Moriarty or Cocoon) where the girl sounds like the one in Nouvelle Vague and you want to kill her because her French accent makes her sound so drop dead sexy and she might as well start singing en Francais but rather she makes the rest of us 'qui parlent tristement seulement en anglais' just bury our heads in 'I might as well die because my sex life will never be the same again' shame
The new musical lovechild of the boys behind the brilliant (and subversively pretty/hilarious) somewhat short lived blog 'Le Petit Echo Malade' ()
Oh trust the French...

I Die (Like a Mexican) For (Pamela) Love

I have serious doubts about whether I'd die for love...and I'm kind of leaning towards answering that in the negative (as drop-dead-droolworthy-gorgeous as a young 'ab-tastic rather than flab-tastic' Leo Di Caprio was when Baz did R&J)
I would probably do alot of things for Pamela Love (including shamelessly begging for one of her trademark talon bracelets...this has been done and has failed so I'm thinking I need a more tactical approach)
Seeing her Fall 10 collection of jewellery has further reinforced this belief of mine. Somewhat morbidly inspired by the Mexican Day of the Dead celebration, it's making me want to celebrate the afterlife in a whole new way. Or at least compile a new obsession list like the tissue decoration style necklace, the gold woven rope necklaces and cuffs (especially the one with little conquistador style motifs that bring me back to a brief spell of American history classes and that slight fling with El Dorado)
And if that isn't the most awesome armour plated finger porn like...bar none. Then you're probably officially as boring as a dead person. No offence. But really.

Thank you for smoking
I was originally going to title this: 'Smoking is good for you'
But then realized that a whole bunch of health activists were probably going to come to my front door with pitchforks (or at least poorly drawn banners/blown up pictures of the effects of lung cancer)
I have come to the conclusion that, despite its somewhat dubious health benefits, there is a certain allure about the cigarette. The French have an incurable addiction. Yves Saint Laurent named his permanent mark on the fashion world 'Le Smoking'.
The mark of every American anti-hero from Jimmy Dean to Steve McQueen.
Smoking just looks so...damn fabulous.
Especially when you're wearing classic Persols.
Rebel without a cause? Totally.

PS. While I am far from a devastatingly cool smoker (mainly because I could not manage that 'je ne sais quoi' awesomeness) - I am now totally inspired to finally purchase that 'Jasmine and Cigarettes' perfume. Because I can at least smell like a delinquent private school girl can't I? Can't I?

A Girl & Her Ferragamos

My mother once told me that every girl needs to come into possession of three indispensable items when she transitions into womanhood (either via a super lucky hand-me-down or purchased as of one's own accord):
1. Hermes silk scarves
2. A Chanel quilted 2.55 bag
3. A pair of Ferragamo pumps
Number 1 - I managed to acquire using the good, time honored 'But I need to look professional for work' excuse.
Number 2 - A very special early 21st birthday present once again using the phrase 'You'll never need to get me another present again in my life' (What a blatant lie...lie...lie...I am now trying to convince aforementioned gift-givers that I need a Proenza Schouler PS1 satchel for ahem...tax deductible work purposes...Convincing? I think so)
Number 3 - Was sadly missing. Namely because they'd become a little ubiquitous after my countless trips to Asia (my eyes were practically seared with their image in multiple candy coloured hues)
'Lo and behold my one vintage triumph. Ever. In my lifetime.
Admittedly...they caught my eye mostly because I thought they looked rather Hermes-esque (you could be fooled too!)
The most fabulous pair of 80s court pumps ever...with a cute solid little heel. I felt like I had instantly received a massive hit of 80s era, power woman, Melanie Griffith in Working Girl-esque mojo. And who said shoes couldn't make you happy?
So begins a long and beautiful relationship.
And I think that three item list definitely needs adding to...Hermes Kelly anyone? The Dior Lady bag? Chanel ballet flats?
Love & So so so much happiness

Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious

There are so many things that contribute to my unhealthy love affair (okay...borderline obsession) with Sas.
The fact that we can bond over cupcake porn (no it's really not as kinky as it sounds), being shunned by most shop people and all things walking the thin line between disgustingly tacky but fantastic.
As much as I would like to claim that we are TOTALLY twins. The one ability she has that I have yet to develop (yeah being like the twin who has failed to develop...at all) is an uncanny knack for putting together an outfit which totally shouldn't work and yet does. The most adorable cropped leopard spotted blazer, a kitschy gold anchor necklace, a scarf worn as a kind of effortless snood (oh-so-artistically-runway-but-better) and the shoes!
If these aren't the most amazing, scary-crazy gold brogues you have ever seen...then...
I can't even finish the sentence.
From the temple of all things fabulously camp - I once again concede defeat to the beyond supercalifragilisticexpialidocious fabulousness that is Sas

PS. Did you know that supercalifragilisticexpialidocious is actually a word recognized in the Blogger dictionary? Who would have thunk it?

The Perfect Duffle
I really want a nice duffle bag. Probably because I carry my entire life in my bag every single day (I like to live by the dysfunctional Boy Scouts motto: Always be prepared with really superfluous crap that you will never use - like multiple lipglosses or two pairs of sunglasses when it rains...) Or perhaps it's because I want to look like I have a miniscule athletic bone in my body (Healthy body, healthy mind...or so they say) when it's disgustingly untrue (does anyone get puffed after walking up one flight of stairs?)
Or maybe I just need one because Alexander Wang says I need to at least look fashionably athletic (in the most glorious impractical sense of the word...although I suppose you could use that football clutch as an extra ball in a game if you were that desperate and sadistic to bags...)
In any case - point of the story is I would love to steal my 'far-too-fab-why-the-hell-are-you-doing-a-subject-like-law' friend's everyday duffle bag. 100% minimal black leather. In true CK style. Aged leather. Could it get any prettier? Oh wait...yes it can because it'll get better with age.
I would totally make up a sport as an excuse to get one.
Ten-hut.

Mark Borthwick: Dazed & Beautiful

Vanessa Bruno and Rag & Bone - Two of my favourite labels in the whole world...The former for its basics that fit like no other and insouciant, minimalistic Gallic panache and the latter for its impeccable, totally-borrowed-from-the-perfect-boyfriend tailored aesthetic.
Lookbooks - A guilty procrastinating pleasure
Mark Borthwick's photography - Simply too pretty for words. It's that softly blurred, retro imperfection that just makes me want to have never ending hazy afternoons with the sun streaming through my window. Listening to Beach House and Au Revoir Simone. With a cup of herbal tea.
Does anyone need anything more?
I think not.
